The New York Mets are one of several teams interested in acquiring Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Adam Frazier, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
Frazier, 29, is enjoying a breakout season with Pittsburgh and was voted in as the National League's starting second baseman at next week's All-Star Game. A left-handed hitter known for his contact abilities, he's slashing .326/.396/.461 with four homers, five steals, and a major league-leading 109 hits through 85 games.
He's also versatile defensively and can play all three outfield positions.
Frazier is earning $4.3 million this year and has one more season of arbitration eligibility before hitting free agency.
Injuries have left the Mets playing Jeff McNeil at the keystone instead of third base. Adding Frazier could allow McNeil to go back to third while Jonathan Villar and Luis Guillorme shift into utility roles.
The Chicago White Sox are also reportedly interested in adding Frazier before the July 30 trade deadline.
