Report: Pirates sign Shelby Miller to minor-league deal
The Pittsburgh Pirates added right-handed starter Shelby Miller on a minor-league contract, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
After he goes through the league's COVID-19 protocols, Miller is expected to report to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The former All-Star last appeared in the majors with the Chicago Cubs, throwing two innings earlier this year before being released at the end of May. The 30-year-old allowed seven runs on seven hits and five walks while facing 18 batters total.
Miller is a nine-year veteran who first broke into the majors with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2012. Also pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, and Texas Rangers, Miller owns a 4.18 ERA and 4.17 FIP over 760 1/3 career innings, making 132 starts and 21 relief appearances.
Pittsburgh is currently without Steven Brault and Trevor Cahill in its rotation, which ranks 29th in baseball, according to FanGraphs WAR.
