Chicago White Sox second baseman Nick Madrigal was placed on the 60-day IL with a right hamstring tear, the club announced Thursday.

Madrigal was forced to leave Wednesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays after suffering the injury while trying to beat out a ground ball. Trainers had to help him off the field.

Chicago purchased the contract of outfielder Brian Goodwin to replace Madrigal's spot on the active roster.

The 24-year-old Madrigal had been one of the team's hottest hitters this season, batting .305/.349/.425 while leading the club with 61 hits over 54 games.

The White Sox are already missing a pair of young stars in Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert. The latter injured his hip on a similar play in early May and is expected to miss most of the season.
