The Philadelphia Phillies removed utility player Scott Kingery from the 40-man roster and outrighted him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, it was announced Monday.
Philadelphia made the move immediately after reinstating him from the injured list. He went unclaimed on waivers.
Kingery was once considered a key piece of the rebuilding Phillies' future and was signed to a six-year, $24-million contract before making his big-league debut in 2018. But he never lived up to the deal's lofty expectations, producing a .229/.280/.387 line with 30 homers and 96 RBIs over parts of four seasons.
The 27-year-old had one hit in 15 games this year before suffering a concussion that put him on the IL.
Kingery is earning $4 million this year and is owed another $15 million in guaranteed money over the next three seasons. The Phillies hold club options in 2024, 2025, and 2026, with the $13-million option in 2024 containing a $1-million buyout, per Cot's Contracts.
