Indians' Plesac fractures thumb while taking off shirt
Perhaps Zach Plesac will be a little more careful the next time he changes outfits.
The Cleveland Indians right-hander was placed on the 10-day IL Tuesday after sustaining a non-displaced fracture of his right thumb in truly bizarre fashion. Manager Terry Francona said Plesac's thumb became caught on a chair at his locker while he was "rather aggressively ripping off his shirt," according to Mandy Bell of MLB.com.
X-rays taken Monday revealed the injury. It's not yet known how much time Plesac will miss, according to Bell. He'll be seeing Dr. Thomas Graham on Wednesday in Toledo, according to Tom Withers of The Associated Press.
The 26-year-old owns a 4.14 ERA, 4.51 FIP, and 1.02 WHIP with 38 strikeouts and 12 walks across 10 starts this season.
Plesac's shirt mishap makes him the latest Indians star to land on the IL, joining catcher Roberto Perez and designated hitter Franmil Reyes.
