The Atlanta Braves signed veteran catcher Jonathan Lucroy to a minor-league contract, sources told Ken Rosenthal and David O'Brien of The Athletic.

Lucroy is expected to report to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday, according to O'Brien.

He'll provide additional catching depth to a Braves team depleted behind the plate. Starting catcher Travis d'Arnaud and regular backup Alex Jackson are both on the injured list, while veteran Tyler Flowers, who was attempting a comeback with the Braves, retired on Friday. William Contreras and Jeff Mathis are the only catchers currently on the Braves' active roster.

After failing to make the Chicago White Sox out of spring training, Lucroy appeared in five games for the Washington Nationals early this season. Despite going 5-for-14 with two RBIs during his brief stint in D.C., the Nationals designated him for assignment on April 12 and he elected free agency shortly afterward.

The 34-year-old is a two-time All-Star and has collected 1,133 hits, 108 home runs, and a .752 OPS over his 12-year career with eight teams.
