Oakland Athletics left-hander Jesus Luzardo apologized to his teammates Tuesday for fracturing his pinky finger on his pitching hand while playing video games before his start Saturday.

Luzardo, who landed on the injured list Sunday after hitting his hand on a desk, said he felt bad because he put his teammates in a position where they could've had to fill in for him.

"At the end of the day, I'm going to own up to my mistakes. I have to live with that. I'm not going to be upset about it anymore. I take responsibility," Luzardo said, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com.

He added, "I'm a 23-year-old kid. I make mistakes. I feel a lot of people don't realize that we're people as well. We make the same mistakes that fans and people that work normal jobs make. It was an immature mistake and it was a stupid mistake. I'm not going to do that again."

Luzardo gave up six runs over three innings against the Baltimore Orioles while pitching through the injury. The former top prospect owns a 5.79 ERA over six starts in 2021.
