Astros' Baker: 'It's sad to me' fans are throwing trash cans on field

Dusty Baker wasn't thrilled to see Los Angeles Angels fans throwing trash cans on the field to mock the Houston Astros during Monday's game at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

"You can tell the amount of hostility and the amount of hatred in the stands," the Astros manager said postgame, according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.

"How many in the stands have never done anything wrong in their life? We paid the price for it. How many people have not cheated on a test or whatever at some point in time? I mean, it's easy if you live in glass houses, but I don't think anybody lives in glass houses."

Baker doesn't believe it's fair for fans to take their anger out on the Astros squad, which banged trash cans in a sign-stealing scheme during their World Series-winning season in 2017.

"I think that sometimes we need to look at ourselves before you spew hate on somebody else," Baker added. "It's a sad situation for America, to me, when you hear things - I mean what are the kids supposed to think in the stands? And some of them are kids that are following their parents. It's sad to me. People make mistakes. We paid for ours, and I wish they'd leave it alone."

The can-throwing first occurred during the bottom of the sixth when a spectator tossed an inflatable trash can near the warning track in the outfield.

A real garbage can also ended up on the field while Jose Altuve was batting later in the game.

Angels skipper Joe Maddon took a more lighthearted approach to the situation in comparison to his counterpart.

"It used to be beach balls, now it is trash cans. I don't think it bothered them," Maddon said, according to Joe Reedy of The Associated Press. "It's entertaining. It helped the fans vent. I think it does fuel the Astros."
