Thursday's Opening Day contest between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets has been postponed due to contact tracing issues involving the Nationals, the club announced.

"Out of an abundance of caution, the game will not be made up on Friday. We will continue to provide updates as available," the Nationals said in a statement.

Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said Wednesday that a player who was on the club's flight from Florida to Washington tested positive for COVID-19. Four of the unidentified player's teammates and one staff member have also been quarantined after contact tracing.

There are concerns over at least one more positive COVID-19 test result within the Nationals, ESPN's Jeff Passan reports.

The Mets do not have any coronavirus issues, sources told Newsday's Tim Healey.

Washington and New York are scheduled to play at 4:05 p.m. ET on Saturday, which would be the first opportunity to make up Thursday's game.
