New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks chose to sit out of Monday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays in response to Sunday's police shooting of Daunte Wright in Minnesota, manager Aaron Boone announced.

Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was shot and killed by police on Sunday in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. Hicks was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins and played three seasons there before being traded to the Yankees.

The Twins, along with the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves and NHL's Minnesota Wild, all postponed their Monday home games in response to the shooting.
