Blue Jays' Stripling, Springer discussed cheating scandal: 'It's behind us'
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Ross Stripling reached out to new teammate George Springer to discuss the Houston Astros' 2017 sign-stealing scandal.
Stripling was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers at the time, while Springer was with the Astros. The latter club ended up winning the World Series, a victory many believe is now tainted because of Houston's indiscretions.
"I texted George when he signed and said 'dude, love to have ya' and just opened up the conversation about that," Stripling said Sunday, according to Rob Longely of the Toronto Sun. "It was a private conversation between me and George, and certainly nothing we want to share in the open. But it was a good, productive conversation, and we put it behind us."
"Now we're teammates, we're Blue Jays and we're looking to win games here," he added. "It's behind us for sure, but definitely needed to touch on it."
Springer, who signed a six-year, $150-million contract with the Blue Jays this offseason, briefly addressed the scandal during a press conference in late January.
"I believe in myself. I believe in my performances. I believe in the team that was there," the 2017 World Series MVP said at the time.
