Houston Astros right-hander Zack Greinke will start on Opening Day against the Oakland Athletics, manager Dusty Baker announced Monday, according to MLB.com's Brian McTaggart.
This will be the first time Greinke has started the season opener for the Astros. Justin Verlander got the nod the past three seasons.
It is the fifth Opening Day start of Greinke's career, with his last one coming in 2019 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The former Cy Young winner has never won an Opening Day start during his 17-year career.
The 37-year-old was 3-3 with a 4.03 ERA in 12 starts for the Astros last season.
