The New York Mets added a new center fielder, agreeing to a deal with free-agent Albert Almora Jr., sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Andy McCullough.
Almora is expected to receive a major-league deal with decent incentives, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
The 26-year-old spent the past five seasons with the Chicago Cubs, owning a .271/.309/.398 slash line with eight defensive runs saved in 489 career games.
The Florida native is considered a strong defender and fills a need as a right-handed-hitting complement to Brandon Nimmo in center field.
Almora's addition takes the Mets out of the running for Jackie Bradley Jr., a source told Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News. New York was connected to Bradley, as well as George Springer before he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.
