The Texas Rangers agreed to a one-year, $2-million contract with former All-Star right-hander Mike Foltynewicz, sources told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
The deal - which is pending a physical - also contains $500,000 in incentives, a source told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Foltynewicz was an All-Star with the Atlanta Braves in 2018 but has struggled to stick in the majors since then. He made just 22 starts over the last two seasons, posting a 4.86 ERA (96 ERA+), 5.30 FIP, and 1.28 WHIP during that span. Atlanta designated him for assignment in July after allowing six runs in his only start of 2020, and he spent the rest of the year at the team's alternate training site.
The 29-year-old may get a chance to start more regularly for the rebuilding Rangers.
Foltynewicz owns a 44-42 career record with a 4.33 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 655 strikeouts across parts of seven major-league seasons.
