Blue Jays official refutes report of 3-year deal with Brantley
Michael Brantley may not be a member of the Toronto Blue Jays after all.
A team official refuted a report that the club had reached an agreement with the All-Star outfielder on a three-year contract.
"The team remains interested in Michael Brantley but there is no deal currently in place," the club official told Hazel Mae of Sportsnet.
The deal was supposedly complete pending a physical, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported.
However, conflicting reports surfaced not long after. Sources told Mark Feinsand of MLB.com and Jeff Passan of ESPN that a deal has not been reached, adding that the Blue Jays are among the teams in the mix to land Brantley.
Brantley is close friends with George Springer, who reportedly agreed to a six-year, $150-million deal with Toronto on Tuesday night.
The 33-year-old Brantley slashed .309/.370/.497 with 27 homers, 112 RBIs, and 68 walks over his two seasons with the Houston Astros.
