The Washington Nationals signed slugger Kyle Schwarber to a one-year deal, the team announced Saturday.

The contract is worth $10 million, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
The deal includes a mutual option for 2022 worth $11 million with a $3-million buyout, sources told Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports. That means Schwarber's base salary for 2021 is technically $7 million plus the buyout if his option isn't picked up.
Schwarber, 27, became a free agent after the Chicago Cubs non-tendered the outfielder earlier this offseason as he entered his third and final year of arbitration eligibility. He was projected to earn $7 million to $9.3 million, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
Schwarber is coming off a down year, hitting .188/.308/.393 with 11 homers and one steal over 59 games in the pandemic-shortened campaign. For his career, Schwarber has authored a 113 OPS+, which is 13 points better than the league average.
