The Chicago White Sox and free-agent outfielder Adam Eaton agreed to a one-year, $7-million contract with a second-year team option for $8.5 million, a source told Chuck Garfien of NBC Sports Chicago.
The deal is pending a physical, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Eaton confirmed the signing in an Instagram post Tuesday.
The 32-year-old played with the White Sox for three seasons from 2014-16 before being traded to the Washington Nationals. Chicago acquired Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, and Dane Dunning in exchange for Eaton.
Eaton spent the next four campaigns with the Nationals, which included a World Series title in 2019.
He owns a career .282/.360/.416 slash line with 60 home runs and 44 triples across nine years in the majors with the White Sox, Nationals, and Arizona Diamondbacks.
The White Sox have been busy to start the winter meetings, landing right-hander Lance Lynn in a trade Monday night as well. The club is still interested in outfielder Michael Brantley and could also add another starting pitcher, reports Jayson Stark of The Athletic.
