The Atlanta Braves elected to non-tender outfielder Adam Duvall ahead of Wednesday's deadline.

Although he's now a free agent, the move may not mark the end of his tenure in Atlanta as the Braves will consider re-signing him, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. He was projected by MLB Trade Rumors to earn between $4.4 million and $7.1 million in arbitration.

The Braves chose to cut Duvall in order to keep flexibility in left field amid uncertainty regarding the future of the designated hitter in the National League, according to Rosenthal.

The 32-year-old was Atlanta's primary left fielder in 2020, slashing .237/.301/.532 with 16 homers and 33 RBIs over 57 games. His postseason was cut short by an injury during the NLCS.

Atlanta now has two outfield openings to fill, with both Duvall and fellow corner outfielder/DH Marcell Ozuna now in free agency.

The Braves did avoid arbitration with three of their eligible players Wednesday, agreeing to a one-year, $1.9-million contract with right-hander Luke Jackson; infielder Johan Camargo and left-hander Grant Dayton also inked one-year deals earlier in the day.
