Report: McCann drawing interest from 6 teams
The free-agent market for catcher James McCann is heating up.
McCann is drawing interest from the Chicago White Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets, St. Louis Cardinals, and Los Angeles Angels, reports MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
The Philadelphia Phillies are also believed to be interested in the event that they can't re-sign J.T. Realmuto.
Though the White Sox like having McCann as Yasmani Grandal's backup, he's being viewed as a starter in free agency, Heyman adds.
McCann, 30, spent the past two years with the White Sox and put together the best campaign of his career in 2020 after being named to the American League All-Star team the season prior.
McCann's 2019-20 stats
SEASON | PA | HR | SLG | OPS+ |
---|---|---|---|---|
2019 | 476 | 18 | .460 | 108 |
2020 | 111 | 7 | .536 | 144 |
He has been worth nine defensive runs saved at catcher with Chicago while throwing out 32% of base-stealers.
