The Toronto Blue Jays are one of the many teams vying to sign catcher J.T. Realmuto, sources told Sports Grid's Craig Mish.

The Blue Jays have five catchers on their 40-man roster, but the two-time All-Star would provide an upgrade at the position over youngsters Danny Jansen, Reese McGuire, and Alejandro Kirk.

Career Stats

PLAYER AGE PA OPS+ WAR
J.T. Realmuto 29 2940 111 18.9
Danny Jansen 25 626 80 2.6
Reese McGuire 25 183 92 0.9
Alejandro Kirk 22 25 166 0.2

Realmuto is one of the top free agents available this offseason and likely won't come cheap after two consecutive strong campaigns with the Philadelphia Phillies, during which he hit a combined .273/.333/.492 with 36 homers, 42 doubles, and 115 RBIs.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins recently admitted the club wants to acquire some "really good" players, and he appears to have the financial backing to land a player of Realmuto's caliber.

Toronto already signed left-hander Robbie Ray to a one-year, $8-million deal and reportedly offered pitcher Kevin Gausman a three-year deal, which he rejected in favor of a one-year qualifying offer from the San Francisco Giants.

The Blue Jays have also recently been linked to other star players such as George Springer, Michael Brantley, Justin Turner, DJ LeMahieu, and Francisco Lindor.
