Cleveland Indians ace Shane Bieber won the American League Cy Young Award on Wednesday and became the first pitcher since Clayton Kershaw in 2014 to win in unanimous fashion, the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced.

The 25-year-old righty won the Triple Crown of pitching after leading the AL in wins, ERA, and strikeouts. He also led the majors in FIP (2.07), K/9 (14.2), and ERA (1.63) while accruing the highest fWAR (3.2) among hurlers.
Bieber said he told National League Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer they should take both awards after the latter texted Bieber before the season to show him they had the same odds to win, according to Zack Meisel of The Athletic.
The two pitchers were teammates with the Indians in 2018 and 2019.
