Miami Marlins outfielder Starling Marte isn't in the starting lineup for Game 2 against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday after a hand specialist confirmed he suffered a small, non-displaced fracture of the fifth metacarpal in his left hand, the team announced, according to SiriusXM's Andre Fernandez.

The veteran outfielder was fitted for a protective cast and will undergo further treatment to help with the swelling.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said Marte will be available to pinch run and play defense in Game 2, but probably won't swing the bat, according to The Athletic's Jim Bowden.

Marte was hit in the hand by a Dan Winkler pitch during the ninth inning of Wednesday's Game 1.

The 31-year-old Dominican hit .245/.286/.415 with four home runs, six doubles, 13 RBIs, and five steals for the Marlins after acquiring him in an August trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Magneuris Sierra will start in center field for the Marlins in Game 2.
