The Minnesota Twins have won the American League Central division for the second consecutive season.
The Twins needed either a win against the Cincinnati Reds or a Chicago White Sox loss to the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs beat their crosstown rivals 10-8, taking the pressure off Minnesota.
The Reds ultimately beat the Twins 5-3 in extra innings. With the loss, Minnesota finishes in the third seed and will host the Houston Astros in the AL wild-card series.
The White Sox rallied for seven runs in the final two frames, after entering the bottom of the eighth trailing the Cubs 10-1, but came up short.
As a result, the White Sox dropped to seventh and will play the Oakland Athletics in the wild-card round.
