Mickey Moniak is finally getting his shot.

The Philadelphia Phillies selected the 2016 first overall pick's contract from Lehigh Valley ahead of Wednesday's game against the New York Mets.

Philadelphia chose Moniak out of San Diego's La Costa Canyon High School with the first pick in 2016, and the Phillies signed him to a contract with a $6.1 million bonus. The 22-year-old hasn't played above Double-A and has struggled during his minor-league career, but Moniak also been among the youngest players on his teams at every level, according to Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic.

Moniak, who MLB.com ranks as the Phillies' No. 13 prospect, slashed .252/.303/.439 with a career-best 11 homers, 67 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases at Double-A Reading in 2019. He took part in major-league spring training before the pandemic stoppage, but the Phillies only added him to their eligible player pool on Aug. 30.

The Phillies also placed right-hander Jake Arrieta and outfielder Kyle Garlick on the 10-day injured list in corresponding roster moves. Arrieta injured his hamstring while throwing a pitch Tuesday against the New York Mets, though he downplayed the severity of his ailment postgame. Garlick is dealing with an oblique injury.

Philadelphia also recalled right-hander Connor Brogdon from Lehigh Valley.
