Cardinals' Shildt gets 1-game ban for benches-clearing incident vs. Brewers

St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt has been suspended one game and fined an undisclosed amount for his role in a benches-clearing incident in Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Shildt won't appeal and will serve the suspension during the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader in Milwaukee, notes Feinsand.

The skirmish occurred in the bottom of the fifth inning after Brewers veteran Ryan Braun hit Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina in the wrist with his bat on a swing. Shildt apparently heard something from the Brewers' dugout when he checked on Molina.

Shildt then walked toward the opposing dugout and stared down the Brewers, prompting the incident. No punches were ultimately thrown.

"It was all a bit confusing and somewhat absurd to me," Braun said postgame Wednesday, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. "I would never intentionally hit a catcher's glove. I couldn't do that if I tried."
