The Colorado Rockies acquired outfielder Kevin Pillar and cash from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later and international bonus pool space, the team announced.
Pillar played 30 games for the Red Sox after joining on a one-year contract over the offseason, serving as their primary right fielder. He's in the midst of a career year at the plate, slashing .274/.325/.470 (109 OPS+) with four homers and 13 RBIs.
Despite his elite defense, Pillar's not considered a great hitter, owning a career .261/.297/.407 slash line across eight seasons with the Red Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, and San Francisco Giants.
The 31-year-old will likely serve as a much-needed right-handed depth bat for the Rockies. Pillar also brings experience to the club, as he was a key member of the Blue Jays' playoff teams in 2015 and '16.
