The Kansas City Royals traded right-hander Trevor Rosenthal to the San Diego Padres in exchange for outfielder Edward Olivares and a player to be named later, the Padres announced Saturday.

Rosenthal, 30, is in the midst of a resurgent campaign, saving seven games and owning a 3.29 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings.

The veteran hurler had a 13.50 ERA in 22 games for the Washington Nationals and Detroit Tigers in 2019.

Olivares, 24, hit .176/.222/.294 with 14 strikeouts in 13 games for the Padres before he was optioned to the team's alternate training site Aug. 19.

San Diego's bullpen is without closer Kirby Yates, who recently had surgery to remove bone chips from his right elbow.
