Cubs' Rizzo angry with politicians: They 'don't really give a f--- about us'
Warning: Story contains coarse language
Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo expressed his frustration with the lack of action from politicians on Wednesday in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake by police in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The tragedy came two years after a mass shooting at his high school alma mater in Parkland, Florida.
"I've gone through a lot with my high school and shit doesn't change. It's just the fact of the matter. Politicians don't really give a fuck about us," Rizzo said, according to Russell Dorsey of the Chicago Sun-Times. "All they care about is their own agenda and it's just the way it is and it's upsetting."
Rizzo's comments followed his team's 7-6 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, a game in which his teammate Jason Heyward chose not to play. Heyward was one of several players to not participate, standing in solidarity with NBA players after they walked out of postseason games.
"I couldn't go out there and play tonight - not with what's happening," said Heyward, who encouraged his teammates to play, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.
Three games featuring the Milwaukee Brewers, Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, and Los Angeles Dodgers were also postponed on Wednesday.
