Padres' Campusano charged with felony marijuana possession
San Diego Padres prospect Luis Campusano was arrested and charged with felony marijuana possession Saturday in Georgia, per a police report, according to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune.
Police reportedly found 79 grams of marijuana in Campusano's car after he was pulled over around 5 a.m. He has since been released on a $5,000 bond.
"We were recently notified of the arrest of Luis Campusano in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia, this past weekend," the Padres said in a statement. "We are gathering information and have been in contact with MLB and local authorities. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have any further comment at this time."
In Georgia, if an individual is caught with possession of more than 28.35 grams of marijuana, they could face up to 10 years in prison, Acee notes.
The 22-year-old catcher played in one game for the Padres this season. He's one of the top prospects in San Diego's minor-league system and ranks No. 46 in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.
