The Seattle Mariners designated struggling slugger Daniel Vogelbach for assignment Wednesday, barely a year after he represented them at the All-Star Game.

Seattle now has three days to trade, release, or outright Vogelbach to the minors.

Vogelbach - a former top prospect thanks to his powerful bat - made his big-league debut in 2016. He secured a full-time spot in the Mariners' lineup last year, hitting .208/.341/.439 with 30 home runs and 76 RBIs in 144 games while splitting time between first base and DH. While his 21 first-half homers helped him earn an All-Star berth, Vogelbach slumped significantly after the midsummer classic, posting a meager .626 OPS down the stretch in 2019.

The 27-year-old went just 5-for-53, walking 11 batters and striking out 13 through 18 games this year. He was serving exclusively as a DH, and the team often had to platoon him against left-handed pitchers.

Vogelbach had no minor-league options remaining and isn't eligible for arbitration until 2022.

In addition to designating Vogelbach, the Mariners also recalled outfielder Braden Bishop and infielder Sam Haggerty from their alternate training site. They optioned reliever Art Warren to the alternate site, while outrighting veteran pitcher Bryan Shaw - who was DFA'd over the weekend and will report to Tacoma.
