The Houston Astros activated outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez from the 10-day injured list on Friday.

Alvarez hasn't played this year due to an undisclosed injury landing him on the IL prior to the season. He could be in the lineup Friday night against the Seattle Mariners.

The 23-year-old is a much-needed reinforcement for an Astros team that's gone 8-10. Houston has scored 93 runs (ninth in MLB) and hit 21 home runs (20th) while posting a .733 OPS (18th).

Alvarez stormed out of the gate in 2019 en route to earning AL Rookie of the Year honors, slashing .313/.412/.655 with 27 home runs, 26 doubles, and 78 RBIs in 87 games.

The Astros optioned right-hander Nivaldo Rodriguez to the team's alternate training site in a corresponding move, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
