Yankees option Andujar to alternate training site
The New York Yankees optioned infielder Miguel Andujar to the team's alternate training site following the finale of their doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, the team announced.
Andujar, 25, had a breakout campaign in 2018 when he hit 27 home runs and drove in 92 RBIs as the Yankees' starting third baseman.
Shoulder surgery forced him to miss most of the 2019 campaign, and Gio Urshela has since emerged as the team's starter at third.
Four of Andujar's five games this season came as an outfielder. He managed just one hit in 14 plate appearances.
The Yankees also optioned infielder Thairo Estrada and right-hander Nick Nelson to the alternate site.
Team rosters are being reduced to 28 players before the beginning of Thursday's games.
