New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes says he'll be ready for the beginning of the upcoming MLB season.
"I know for certain now that I will be ready (for Opening Day)," Cespedes said Saturday, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. "I'm very excited for the season to start in two weeks."
The two-time All-Star said he's prepared to play left field when needed, as well as slot in as the designated hitter, which the National League adopted for the shortened season, according to DiComo.
Cespedes has appeared in 119 games and hit .282/.343/.525 with 26 homers and 71 RBIs since signing a four-year, $110-million contract with the Mets prior to the 2017 season. The outfielder missed the entire 2019 campaign due to an injury he suffered on his ranch, which caused the club to file a grievance and restructure his deal.
The 34-year-old won his only Silver Slugger and earned down-ballot MVP consideration during his first season with the Mets in 2016, hitting .280/.354/.530 with 31 home runs.
