Pirates' Williams: 'It's more impressive this year to win World Series'
"I would even make the argument that it's more impressive this year to win the World Series," Williams said during an appearance on MLB Network Radio. "Just because of all the unknown factors; going home for quarantine, coming back at summer camp, staying healthy through that entire time, using that time to get better, and coming back to your team. It's different. No one has had to go through this before and there's just so much adversity this year."
"I don't think guys are ever going to say this year has got a giant asterisk around it," Williams added. "No matter what award you win or what team award you win. I think it's equally as impressive if not more impressive."
Williams isn't the first player to share the sentiment. Minnesota Twins left-hander Rich Hill, who was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers club that lost the World Series in 2017, recently said that the 2020 championship will at least be worth the same as the one the Houston Astros won.
With camps underway, the MLB season is slated to officially begin on July 23.
