The Kansas City Royals announced Saturday that catcher Salvador Perez tested positive for COVID-19, according to Alec Lewis of The Athletic.
Perez signed off on the announcement and is in good spirits, Lewis added.
The six-time All-Star missed all of the 2019 campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery. Perez has earned five Gold Glove Awards and two Silver Sluggers. He won a World Series with the Royals in 2015.
Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman and Minnesota Twins slugger Miguel Sano also tested positive Saturday.
News of the results comes a day after Major League Baseball and the MLBPA announced there were 38 positive tests for COVID-19 during the league's first round of mandatory testing.
