MLB All-Star Game canceled, Dodgers awarded event in 2022

The 2020 All-Star Game in Los Angeles has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, MLB announced Friday, according to MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince. As a result, the Dodgers have been awarded the event in 2022.

"Once it became clear we were unable to hold this year's All-Star festivities, we wanted to award the Dodgers with the next available All-Star Game, which is 2022," commissioner Rob Manfred said.

"I want to thank the Dodgers organization and the city of Los Angeles for being collaborative partners in the early stages of All-Star preparation and for being patient and understanding in navigating the uncertainty created by the pandemic."

The cancellation marks the first time since World War II that MLB's All-Star Game won't be played.

Dodgers CEO Stan Kasten said Friday that fans can keep their All-Star Game tickets for 2022 or get a refund starting Monday, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times.

The league recently mandated a 60-game season, which is expected to start July 23.

The Atlanta Braves will host All-Star Game festivities in 2021 at Truist Park.
