Minnesota Twins first baseman Miguel Sano will not face charges following kidnapping allegations in the Dominican Republic, according to La Velle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune.
Odalis Ramos, a lawyer in the Dominican, posted a video on June 16 accusing Sano and three others of kidnapping and beating his client Raudy Omar Sanchez de la Cruz.
Sano denied any wrongdoing, and claimed he was being blackmailed for 10-million pesos ($170,000). He also told Dominican newspaper El Nuevo Diario that Sanchez de la Cruz was involved in a sexual assault of Sano's stepbrother.
Sano was officially cleared of wrongdoing at a court hearing in the Dominican on Thursday due to insufficient evidence. Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey told reporters he expects Sano will report to the team's resumed spring training camp on time, according to Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com.
The 27-year-old hit 34 home runs with a .923 OPS over 105 games last season. In January, he agreed to a three-year, $30-million extension with Minnesota.
