Carl Crawford arrested for domestic violence

Former Major League Baseball outfielder Carl Crawford has been arrested on a domestic violence charge, a sheriff's spokesman for the Harris County Jail in Houston told St. John Barned-Smith of the Houston Chronicle.

Crawford allegedly choked his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint in May, according to court documents that TMZ Sports obtained.

The victim claims Crawford arrived at her apartment in Houston on May 8 and "unloaded the clip" of a semi-automatic handgun before ejecting "a round of the pistol" and beginning to walk toward her holding the firearm.

He then interrogated her before threatening violence.

Crawford allegedly pushed the woman to the ground as she tried to leave the apartment, then he "held the gun in one hand, and used the other hand to grab her by the head and neck, while asking her how long she had been dating a male acquaintance," according to the documents.

After the woman said she had only known the male in question for a week, Crawford allegedly called her a liar and slammed her head into a wall several times.

The woman adds that she nearly passed out when Crawford was squeezing her neck, but then her one-year-old daughter appeared. That distracted Crawford long enough for her to escape. Crawford also allegedly fled the scene, but he left behind his handgun.

After the incident, Crawford continued to send her threatening text messages, saying he was paying someone to track down the other male, according to the woman.

The 38-year-old turned himself in to police on Thursday, and he's currently in custody.

“We strongly disagree with the charges and allegations as to Carl's conduct," Crawford's lawyer Rusty Hardin the Houston Chronicle. "He does not and would not intentionally harm any woman and we look forward to showing he is not guilty."

Crawford retired following the 2016 season. He was a four-time All-Star.
