Add Mike Trout to a growing list of major leaguers who aren't keen on MLB's reported plan to start the 2020 campaign in Arizona due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
"I obviously want to play as fast as we can, get to a city - maybe Arizona, they're throwing out Florida," the Los Angeles Angels superstar told NBC Sports on Wednesday. "But being quarantined in a city, I was reading for - if we play - a couple of months, it would be difficult for some guys.
"What are you going to do with family members? My wife is pregnant, what am I going to do when she goes into labor? Am I going to have to quarantine for two weeks after I come back? Obviously I can't miss the birth of our first child. There are a lot of red flags, there's a lot of questions."
The three-time AL MVP believes there are still more questions than answers at this point.
"Obviously we would have to agree on it as players," the 28-year-old said. "I think the mentality is that we want to get back as soon as we can. But obviously it's got to be realistic. We can't be sitting in our hotel rooms, and just going from the field to the hotel room and not being able to do anything. I think that's pretty crazy."
Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler, and Washington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman have also expressed concerns with the reported plan.
Meanwhile, Arizona's governor said Tuesday the state can host all MLB teams at the "right time," while Dr. Anthony Fauci added Wednesday that sports can return in 2020 without fans in attendance.
