Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw isn't feeling Major League Baseball's reported plan to start the delayed 2020 season in Arizona as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
"I just don't see that happening," Kershaw told SportsNet LA's John Hartung on Monday. "I'm not going to be away from my family and not see them for four-and-a-half months. I just talked about how much (my son) Cooper changes, you know, over one week, so to miss four months of his life right now, I'm just not going to do it.
"And there's are a lot of other things that are just wrong with that proposal, but it's not to say that we can't go somewhere with it. It's just that there's a lot of things that have to be figured out before I go quarantine myself with my team for four months."
This isn't the first time the eight-time All-Star has expressed his doubts about the 2020 campaign, as he said in late March that a World Series in December would be "a little iffy."
The earliest that a new season could begin is mid-May in compliance with CDC recommendations. MLB's Arizona plan would reportedly include Opening Day taking place as early as next month with the potential for clubs to return to home ballparks after two-to-three months.
