San Francisco Giants right-hander Tyler Beede will undergo Tommy John surgery Friday, Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi announced, according to Janie McCauley of The Associated Press.

The surgery will be performed in Dallas by Dr. Keith Meister.

Beede left a Cactus League game earlier in March because of a tight elbow. An MRI showed that he'd sprained his flexor tendon and ulnar collateral ligament.

The 26-year-old was likely to open the season in San Francisco's rotation before suffering the injury.

Beede, a former first-round pick of the Giants, made his major-league debut in 2018. Last year, he appeared in 24 games (22 starts) for the team and posted a 5.08 ERA, 5.03 FIP, and 1.48 WHIP with 113 strikeouts.
