Free-agent right-hander and former All-Star Matt Harvey nearly had a job with the Toronto Blue Jays "several weeks" back, but the two sides ultimately couldn't come to an agreement, Jon Heyman reported on the "Big Time Baseball" podcast on Thursday.
Harvey "did well" during a tryout with the Blue Jays, who were "seriously considering him" for a potential role in Toronto's bullpen, Heyman adds.
The 30-year-old last pitched in the majors for the Los Angeles Angels in 2019, posting a 7.09 ERA in 12 starts before he was released last July.
Harvey caught on with the Oakland Athletics in August, throwing 17 innings for their Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, but didn't make the jump to MLB.
The former New York Mets ace last pitched effectively at the big-league level for the Cincinnati Reds in 2018, authoring a 4.50 ERA in 128 innings as a starter.
