The San Francisco Giants and infielder Pablo Sandoval have agreed to a minor-league deal, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies were also interested in the 12-year veteran, Heyman reports.

Sandoval, 33, underwent Tommy John surgery in early September. His recovery is said to be significantly ahead of schedule, and he met with new Giants manager Gabe Kapler earlier in January to discuss a return to the team, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.

The two-time All-Star spent the first eight years of his career with the Giants, a stretch that included three World Series wins. He joined the Boston Red Sox on a lucrative multi-year contract in 2015 but returned to San Francisco in 2017 after being released.

Sandoval posted an .820 OPS with 14 home runs in 108 games for the Giants in 2019.
