L.A. City Council approves resolution to award World Series titles to Dodgers

Maybe the Los Angeles Dodgers won back-to-back World Series titles after all.

On Tuesday, Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved a resolution to compel Major League Baseball to strip the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox of their World Series championships from 2017 and 2018, respectively, and ultimately transfer them to the Dodgers, according to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.

The city wants MLB commissioner Rob Manfred to "recall the World Series Commissioner's Trophies and award them to the Los Angeles Dodgers."

The proposed resolution comes in the wake of the sign-stealing scandal that has embroiled both the Astros and Red Sox in recent weeks. The Astros were found by the league to have stolen signs throughout 2017, including the postseason, as they won the first World Series in franchise history. GM Jeff Luhnow and skipper AJ Hinch were both suspended by MLB before subsequently being fired by the Astros.

The Red Sox remain under investigation regarding the 2018 season and whether or not they engaged in similar behavior. The team parted ways with manager Alex Cora last week. Though the Red Sox remain under league scrutiny, slugger J.D. Martinez is confident the club will be exonerated.

The resolution was initially brought forward by council members Gil Cedillo and Paul Koretz last week.

The Dodgers have not won the World Series since 1988.
