Tigers agree to 1-year deal with Ivan Nova for reported $1.5M
The Detroit Tigers and right-hander Ivan Nova have agreed to terms on a contract, the team announced on Monday.
It's a one-year deal with a base salary of $1.5 million, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports. The deal also contains $500,000 worth of incentives, according to Robert Murray.
"This is a very exciting day for me, and I'm looking forward to meeting my teammates and coaches and working with them to bring winning baseball to the great fans here in Detroit," Nova said in a statement the Tigers released.
The veteran spent 2019 with the Chicago White Sox, and he was durable while making a league-leading 34 starts. But the 33-year-old was inconsistent, finishing with a 4.72 ERA, 4.98 FIP, and 1.46 WHIP while recording only 114 strikeouts. Nova also allowed an AL-high 225 hits.
The Tigers are likely hoping he'll rebound in their rotation, allowing them to flip him to a contender before the trade deadline.
The Tigers designated left-hander Matt Hall for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot for Nova.
