The Chicago White Sox made another splash on Saturday when they reportedly signed left-hander Dallas Keuchel to a three-year deal, and it looks like the South Siders aren't done.
Chicago is continuing to have conversations with free-agent slugger Edwin Encarnacion, reports Bruce Levine of 670 The Score.
The White Sox began discussions with Encarnacion at the winter meetings in early December.
If signed, it's expected the three-time All-Star would slot in as the White Sox's designated hitter and spell Jose Abreu at first base when needed, Levine adds.
The 36-year-old Dominican spent 2019 with the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees, batting .244/.344/.531 with 34 home runs and 86 RBIs. The powerful slugger has hit 32 or more home runs in eight straight seasons.
Since 2012, Encarnacion's 297 home runs and 850 RBIs leads MLB.
Encarnacion became a free agent after having his contract bought out by the Yankees at the end of October and he's reportedly also drawn interest from the Toronto Blue Jays.
The recent passing of Encarnacion's father is keeping him from negotiating a new deal for the time being, but he is expected to sign with a team in January, according to Levine.
Chicago has already landed Keuchel, Abreu, Yasmani Grandal, and Gio Gonzalez in free agency, and traded for Nomar Mazara this winter.
