The Pittsburgh Pirates and free-agent catcher Luke Maile agreed to a one-year contract, the club announced Monday.
Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
The 28-year-old is expected to compete with Pittsburgh's incumbent No. 1 catcher Jacob Stallings for playing time next season.
Maile spent the last three years with the Toronto Blue Jays. He posted a .556 OPS with 10 home runs in 158 games over three years and was non-tendered by the Blue Jays in the beginning of December.
New Pirates general manager Ben Cherington was a member of Toronto's front office when Maile played for the team.
