Rangers trade Mazara to White Sox
The Texas Rangers traded outfielder Nomar Mazara to the Chicago White Sox for outfield prospect Steele Walker, the White Sox announced Wednesday.
"At just 24 years old, Nomar provides us with a left-handed-hitting right fielder who fits into our current team's development arc and who still has untapped potential," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said, according to Scot Gregor of the Daily Herald.
Mazara slashed .268/.318/.469 with 19 home runs and 66 RBIs for the Rangers in 2019. The 24-year-old is projected to make around $5.7 million in 2020, his second arbitration-eligible campaign, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
The Mazara acquisition is the third noteworthy move by the White Sox this offseason. The club signed All-Star catcher Yasmani Grandal to a four-year, $73-million deal, and re-signed first baseman Jose Abreu to a three-year, $50-million contract last month
Walker, meanwhile, was Chicago's No. 6-ranked prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. The 23-year-old posted a .811 OPS with 10 homers between two Single-A levels last season.
