The Minnesota Twins have agreed to a one-year deal worth $4.25 million with catcher Alex Avila, reports ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Avila spent the past two seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, slashing .184/.324/.358 with 16 home runs and 44 RBIs.
The one-time All-Star will likely be a backup behind Mitch Garver in Minnesota. Jason Castro shared catching duties with Garver for the Twins last season.
Over the course of his 11-year career, Avila has hit .235/.348/.396 with 103 home runs and 386 RBIs for the D-Backs, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, and White Sox.
The 32-year-old has shown improvements behind the dish over the past two seasons, accumulating 13 defensive runs saved.
Avila has also developed a better knack for framing pitches over his last two campaigns, with positive results in FRM (catcher framing runs above average), according to FanGraphs.
