Trout: Every Angels player, fan waiting for big move
The offseason is in full swing and the Los Angeles Angels are expected to make an earth-shattering move to improve the club before next season.
Angels superstar Mike Trout shares that feeling of anticipation and believes his teammates and the fan base are also eagerly waiting for something big to drop.
"I think every Angels fan or Angels player is just looking, waiting for that thing to pop up on their phone saying we're acquiring somebody or signing somebody," Trout said Thursday on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM.
Those anxious feelings follow comments made last month by Angels owner Arte Moreno, who said the team's payroll "will go up next year" after the club spent roughly $160 million in 2019.
That could mean a premier free agent like Gerrit Cole or Zack Wheeler is in play. The Angels have been linked to both pitchers in offseason rumors.
Cole's agent, Scott Boras, recently had lunch with Moreno, although the agent said not to read too much into it.
When asked on MLB Network Radio if Trout had been asked to make a pitch to any available free agents on the Angels' behalf, the three-time American League MVP said he hasn't but would be open to doing so.
"You can call my phone any time of the week, I'll be here to answer it," Trout explained.
